Beijing Motor Show concept parade rolls on, and the latest preview from our counterparts at Autoblog Chinese focuses on the NL concept. As has been the case with many of these Beijing-bound concepts, details are scarce, and we can't vouch for the accuracy of the renderings you see in the enclosed gallery, either. If they're actually indicative of the vehicle that Geely will present, expect to see an SUV blending the general shape of the
Ford Kuga with a front end that's vaguely reminiscent of an Opel Antara/
Saturn Vue Red Line. In this case, things seem to come together rather nicely. We'll find out what the real deal is next week when the Beijing show kicks off.

HOLY SH*T A NICE-LOOKING CHINESE CAR
... Of course, looks are pretty subjective.
geo.stewart @ Apr 11th 2008 2:33PM
seems more like Kuga/RDX than Kugavue
not bad but then its a rendering not a 3D rolling stock.

I wonder which manufacture they stole the plans from to create this. Geeley has been in court on more than one occasion for trademark infringement from both American and Japanese manufactures. This looks kind of familiar to me.

i dont know but but it seems that in the early days Asians build cars that seem to be the next version of the existing US models... and then people seen to subliminally recognize this...
the best example of this is the Camry and Accord vs Taurus in the early 90's
this looking like that the next Chevy equinox... it looks good... but it really looks like a Chevy...
Brian @ Apr 11th 2008 4:49PM
yea i agree... when i first saw that pic i thought Chevy... then i read the title and realized it was a Geely

Seems that a shakeout among too many Chinese brands and too many Chinese car models is likely.
China's many car companies appear to be like they were in the U.S. during the 1920s, and like computer companies in the '80s. Remember the Osborne?

Not saying you're wrong, but with 4-5 times as many people in China, they have huge domestic market to spread out onto.
By some accident, this doesn't look too bad. The vehicles the Chinese makers had in the basement of Cobo, however, did.
B-NOIT @ Apr 11th 2008 2:07PM
I see a bit of Acura RD-X and Mazda influence in there too, but overall it's a pretty nice design - if the rendering is accurate. The chinese automakers are finally starting to get it, but I still wonder how long it will take for them to be viewed as real players in other markets.
Alex Nunez @ Apr 11th 2008 2:31PM
As long as it takes them to convince people that the cars are safe and mechanically reliable.
DJ @ Apr 11th 2008 2:31PM
Put a "bowtie" on that chrome crossbar where the Geely logo is and I'd say we have a Chevy......
tanooki2003 @ Apr 11th 2008 2:34PM
Then expect it to fall apart after 3 years once the bowtie is added
vwboyaf1 @ Apr 11th 2008 2:46PM
And chinese auto's have proven their reliability? I'd rather take an equinox anyday.

It's not going to be long that the Chinese are going to be major players. I've been saying it for years, but the only way the U.S. auto industry is going to be able to compete, is to go upscale in U.S. based manufacturing, like the BMW's/Mercedes/Audi's and even Cadillac's? of the world, and compete in local markets with manufacturing based there, and build market segment leaders, year after year. Easier said than done, but come on already, we've been doing it a lot longer.
About this car, It looks sorta Ford Kuga Concept and GM/Opel-ish to me, which is a good thing.
Miguel @ Apr 11th 2008 2:39PM
Looks like a Volt mated with a Kuga and produced a CUV with an identity crisis.
Munna @ Apr 11th 2008 2:40PM
Looks like a concept version of the saturn vue to me...

Nice looking, but curious to see what the actual prototype looks like. this is another impractical chopped auto rendering with a greenhouse that looks cool but doesn't seem like it would to the production line.

"Geel-ings, Whoa, whoa Geelings..."
Poster above is correct. A big market in Peoples REpublic of China. Sell there first.
Rick @ Apr 11th 2008 3:59PM
They are copying Toyota's new 'corners must be whipped to a sharp edge' design philosophy.
person935 @ Apr 11th 2008 6:52PM
Yeah, the line coming forward from the rear lights and dropping down especially is straight off the RAV4.
Jason @ Apr 11th 2008 4:15PM
Ahhh... So THAT is what it would look like if you crossed a Saturn Outlook with a Nissan Murano...
