Mitsubishi releases official pricing for Evolution X GSR

Last month we were able to provide some speculative pricing on Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution X GSR and MR, but those figures were still unconfirmed. Now it's official. You can get behind the wheel of the new Evo in GSR trim (meaning, equipped with the five-speed manual) for $32,990.
Start ticking off the option boxes and the price will head north pretty quick. The "Sight, Sound and Spoiler" package that includes HID headlamps, 650-watt Rockford-Fosgate ICE, Sirius, the Evo's trademark wing and the "FAST" keyless entry system costs $2,000. Add the 30 gig hard-drive navigation system and you're out another $1,999. The optional aero kit is another $2,000 and includes front, side and rear air dams, along with a rear spoiler extension. An aluminum shift knob and emergency brake handle are even being offered for the bargain price of $399.
Mitsubishi didn't announce pricing for the range topping, dual-clutch equipped MR, but if the GSR's pricing is any indication, early reports about it cresting the $40k mark are likely on target.

I'm tired of seeing kids - yes 16-21 yr old kids driving evo IX's around town... Hopefully the little price bump will deter their parents. I'm sure insurance isn't going to be cheap either...

Yes but their covered in regular fabric instead of the Alcantara/leather in the MR. And the base price is only $500 more then the EVO IX GSR was before it went away. Not too bad if you ask me.

The last Evo IX GSR MSRP'd at $31,399... so an increase of $1,600. The 32,990 price tag still looks better than the STI's 34,999 (or so) price. And while the Evo can corner faster, the STI just seems cooler to me. Still, it'd be sweet if the STI was ~32k also.

Don't curse the dollar too much...we have a member in NZ (and another in singapore) that paid about twice what us americans will pay for an evo X.

The idea behind the Evo and STI have always been performance per dollar. And it was almost untouchable a few years ago.
Seeing these cars at $35k (base STI), $40k (optioned-up STI and Evo without a proper gearbox) makes me weap for what should have been.
Give me less goodies and bring the sticker down some. Where it should be. WRX TR is a good example. Evo RS is another. Where'd my little affordable rally car go :(.

The Evo RS is alive and well for this tenth iteration, though I can't recall off the top of my head how much it is going to sell for. But yeah, that's the one I'd be going for not only because of the price, but because I couldn't care less about the little gizmos that are in the other models. The RS has the engine, transmission (5-spd), and chassis that I want, the rest of the crap can stay in the factory.
As far as Subarus go, I don't think there ever was a stripped down version of the STI in the same vein as the Evo RS.

No, never a stripped down STI, used to only be able to get a few goodies (basic floor mats/shifter/mudflaps/whatever). The WRX was offered as a TR (Tuner-ready) model with a few parts that weren't the best because they knew people would replace them - seats, radio, suspension (I believe). This is all off the top of my head so I don't really remember. But yes, no stripped out STI. It's become a fat cow hatchback.

From all of what I've read, the Evo RS is not slated for US release. The RS lives on in Japan (of course) but no news as of yet as to if/when it will make the trip across the Pacific to the States.

Evo/STI/WRX/Raliart - whatever your poison may be; these cars are better off being purchased a year or two after the model year.
I'd like to upgrade my WRX, but I doubt I'd ever bother buying a new one again.
