Introduction
It's important to keep your floor mats secured in your vehicle. While it's not mandatory, many vehicles feature floor hooks, or clips, that secure the mat to the floor. Our gallery will show you the differences and what you should keep in mind. -

Hook-style floor floor mat anchors
Hook-style floor mats are the most common. They feature a plastic hook, much like a horizontal tooth, that keeps the mat anchored by way of its position. -

When the mat is in place, the horizontal tooth snugly fits through and over the floor mat. These hooks tend to be form-fitting, so don't be surprised if they take some pressure to get into place. -

Clip or button-style floor mat anchors
Clip (sometimes called button) style anchors do not wrap on top of the floor mat. These are starting to be used used more frequently in luxury vehicles. -

When the clip-style anchor is in place, the anchor rests flush with the top of the mat. You should not see a hole in the mat; if so your mats are improperly installed. Luxury cars sometimes hide the top of the clip altogether, so make sure these mats are properly anchored by lifting up the corner and looking for yourself. -

Keep Pedal Away From Floor Mat
Regardless of the type of floor mat anchor in your vehicle, make sure to look down and make certain that the pedal is not in touch with the floor mat. The mat should not move forward in any way to impede clearance for the throttle or brake.
