VW to make body shells for the Porsche Panamera

Porsche has announced that it will capitalize upon its part-ownership of Volkswagen to help bring the Panamera to the market. Volkswagen, which already makes the body shell for the Touareg’s Porsche Cayenne sibling, will be enlisted to make the body shell for the Panamera, as well. VW’s Wolfsburg plant will stamp, paint and ship the shells to Porsche when production kicks off for the 2009 model year, cutting Porsche’s previously reported $1.2 billion development cost estimates for the vehicle. The Panamera will bow for the first time at Geneva next spring.
