UPDATE:
Tesla has released images of the updated Model S, showing that new front fascia and a largely unchanged tail. The new Model S adds HEPA filtration, also borrowed from the Model X. There’s no word on updates for the autopilot system or even changes to the location of the hardware.

As
rumored, Tesla is giving the Model S its very first noticeable refresh. The new design ditches the original grille in favor of something more in keeping with the Model X. The result, in our ever so humble opinion, is the best-looking version of Tesla’s semi-grilleless design language.

The image was originally
uncovered by Electrek, and looks to come from a Model S showroom merchandising area. The new grille essentially eliminates everything below the Tesla logo and replaces it with body work. The headlights look like they’ve been tweaked very, very slightly, as has the lower grille, but the overall changes aren’t dramatic. At the very least, it’s better and more conventional looking than the
Model 3’s polarizing face.

The other change, and it’s definitely hard to tell from the image tweeted out by
Electrek, focuses on the cameras for the autopilot system. According to the EV-focused outlet, if there are new cameras, they’re in the side-view mirrors. That could mean new autopilot hardware, or a simple design tweak.

You can check out
Electrek‘s tweet with the showroom image below.
We’re expecting Tesla to release the full slate of details on the updated Model S soon. Stay tuned. Tesla has released three images of the updated sedan, which you can check out up top.
