Nearly Every Lucid Air Ever Built Is Being Recalled Over a Fire Risk

The Lucid Air has set headlines for speed and range, but now it’s in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons: a recall that ropes in nearly every car ever sold.

One of the EV World’s Best Gets a Massive Recall

Lucid Air has spent the last few years earning its stripes as one of the most jaw-dropping electric sedans you can buy. The Sapphire version can out-accelerate plenty of supercars, while other variants still hold the crown for the longest EPA-rated range of any electric car you can get in the US.

Impressive? Yes, but now, almost every Lucid Air ever built in the US is being recalled. The official recall covers 27,185 cars from the 2022 to 2026 model years – basically, if you’ve got an Air, it’s probably on the list. Production dates run from October 2021 all the way through July 2026, so this isn’t just a small batch.

What Went Wrong?

The recall has nothing to do with the Air’s big, scary battery pack or its electric motors. Instead, it’s a software glitch in the low-voltage circuits that power the exterior lights, all kept in check by something called an eFuse.

According to the recall report, the software might allow a circuit to keep drawing power even when it’s well over the safe limit. That means wires or parts can get hot enough to smoke – or worse, catch fire. If the lights go out while you’re driving, that’s a recipe for disaster, too.

Lucid said the first fire popped up in a company-owned Air back in June 2023, but nobody could pin down the cause. Then, a customer’s car went up in May 2026, which kicked off a deeper investigation. Per the report, the tally includes three fires, four smoke shows, and 33 warranty claims for fried wiring associated with those exterior lights.

Lucid says every single recalled car could be at risk. The good news? Telemetry shows 20,719 cars already got the software fix before the recall even went official. That leaves 6,466 cars still waiting for the update.

A Software Fix Is Already Available

Lucid’s fix is pure software, no trips to the shop needed. In July 2026, the company pushed out version 2.10.0 over the air. The update tightens the eFuse protection and prevents a faulty circuit from repeatedly drawing power during the same drive, which should help prevent overheating. If your Air is running 2.10.0 or newer, you’re in the clear.

If you haven’t updated yet, Lucid says to play it safe: park your Air outside and away from buildings until you get the new software. The update is free and comes straight to your car over the air. Need help? Lucid Customer Care or your local Service Center has your back. Official letters start going out October 16, 2026.

If you spot smoke, catch a whiff of something burning, or see warning lights about your exterior lighting before updating, Lucid says don’t wait – get it checked out right away.
