Overview

The 2026 Lucid Air luxury electric midsize sedan sets the benchmark for efficiency, range, and performance in its class. Its base 430-horsepower RWD Pure is the most efficient at 5 miles per kWh, but there’s also dual-motor 620-hp Touring and 819-hp Grand Touring trims with AWD, the latter capable of 512 miles. The range-topping Sapphire packs 1,234 hp and blasts to 60 mph in 1,89 seconds.

The Air packs remarkable passenger and cargo space in an Accord-sized footprint, and its aerodynamic body is very distinctive, with tons of novel features, like a 34-inch Glass Cockpit display, DreamDrive driver-assistance suite, and 21-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system. It’s a cutting-edge electric sedan for drivers looking for top efficiency.

What’s New for 2026?

The 2026 Air Touring gets higher-density battery cells, usefully increasing its range from 406 to 431 miles, but the biggest news is that all 2026 models now have access to the Tesla Supercharger network thanks to an approved NACS adapter, while a portable charge cord is now included as standard, too.

In other news, a quieter and faster-acting air-conditioning compressor is now standard on all trims, and the Grand Touring gains ventilated and massaging 20-way power front seats, while the Pure gains the DreamDrive Premium driver-assistance suite with surround view and blind-spot monitoring. The 2026 Lucid Air’s price starts at $70,900.

Exterior

The Air is strikingly futuristic, with an ultra-low-drag design, flush door handles, a tapered roofline, and slim-line LED headlights with light bars front and rear, and a clamshell hood and trunk lid. Pure and Touring runs on 19-inch wheels (20s optional), Grand Touring has 20s (21s optional), and Sapphire comes with staggered 20/21-inch wheels. A Glass Canopy roof is optional on all but the Pure. The Air is an upper-midsize car at 195.9 inches long.

Interior

The cabin feels very spacious with its flat floor, and the Pure has PurLuxe leatherette upholstery, heated 12-way power front seats, 3-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a digital key. Leather, ventilated and massaging 20-way front seats, a heated steering wheel, and 4-zone climate control feature higher up the trim tree.

All trims have a 34-inch Glass Cockpit display, a retractable 12.5-inch Pilot Panel touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and wireless charging. The Pure has a 9-speaker audio system, but the top trims upgrade to a 21-speaker setup. Cargo space is exceptional, including a 10-cu-ft frunk and a 22.1-inch trunk, the latter expandable to 64.8 cu-ft by folding the rear seats.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Up to 512 miles of range leads the entire EV market
  • Industry-leading efficiency (up to 146 MPGe on the Pure)
  • Exceptionally spacious interior for its exterior dimensions
  • 300-kW DC fast charging adds 200 miles in as little as 12 minutes
  • Sapphire delivers hypercar performance at 1,234 hp

Cons:

  • Limited Lucid studio and service center network
  • Significant depreciation concerns as a newer brand
  • CCS charging port still requires adapter for Tesla Superchargers
  • Interior software can feel complex during initial setup
  • Base Pure lacks AWD and power frunk

Verdict

No luxury electric sedan can match the Lucid Air’s breadth of talent. It offers cabin and cargo space unheard of for a midsize sedan, the best efficiency and range of any EV on the US market, and a starting price of $70,900, positioning it perfectly against midsize rivals. The Pure is the efficiency and price leader, but the Touring adds more power, AWD, and many useful extra features for just $9K, making it the sweet spot in the range.

Lucid still faces challenges in financial stability, brand maturity, and dealer network, but the fundamental product is extraordinary, the cabin experience is high-tech, it drives extremely well, and it charges rapidly – now even on the Tesla Supercharger network. For buyers willing to bet on the future, it’s arguably the best electric sedan in its class.
