Lotus hikes price of Elise in U.S., blame the dollar

You may think the economy is doing just dandy and sweep the fact that the dollar is losing ground to the Euro under the carpet. But you can’t escape the weak dollar when the price of a 2005 Lotus Elise will rise to $42,990! “The exchange rate between the US dollar and British pound has not returned to a level that allows us to maintain our current pricing”‘ said Lotus Cars USA CEO John English. The MSRP for the 2005 model year produced before January 2005 was $39,985 according to Cars.com. At least the press release says option package charges won’t change, yet. Well it’s not like people aren’t going to line up for the Elise anyway but that extra three large could’ve come in handy to pay for all the speeding tickets, or track time for those so inclined.
