America Is Getting the Hardcore Civic Type R
Ever since the Honda Civic Type R HRC Concept appeared at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year, we’ve heard plenty of reports about its future. There have been indications that the hardcore hot hatch is headed for production, along with rumors that it would eventually make its way to the US. However, Honda had never officially confirmed the latter until now.
In a release ahead of this year’s SEMA Show, Honda has confirmed that the Civic Type R HRC Concept is making its North American debut in Las Vegas from November 3 to 6. More importantly, Honda explicitly stated that the model is being developed for the US market.
Sure, this doesn’t mean you’ll be able to stroll into a dealership and drive one home tomorrow (at least not yet), but it’s a big leap from the endless speculation we’ve been hearing. The concept, which first broke cover in Japan, packs in HRC tech and feedback from real racing drivers to push the already sharp Civic Type R even further.

What to Expect From the Civic Type R HRC
Honda is still keeping the final specs and production dates under wraps, but the Tokyo concept gives us a solid hint at what they’re cooking up.
Rumor has it Honda might drop the HRC-K20C racing engine from the Super Taikyu Series into a street-legal Civic. That could mean more grunt than the standard FL5’s 315 horsepower, but Honda is still playing coy about whether the race-bred engine will actually make the cut.
Visually, the changes are impossible to miss. The concept gets a fresh front end, extra aero bits, flared and vented arches, chunkier side skirts, and a rear diffuser that means business. Top it off with a massive rear wing, Akrapovič exhaust, and HRC-branded cooling gear, and it’s clear this isn’t just a dress-up job.
Earlier reports indicated that HRC is also dialing in upgrades for the suspension, brakes, and cooling to match all that new aero. HRC boss Koji Watanabe has talked about bringing racing tech from Super Taikyu and Super GT into the mix, and it sounds like some aftermarket goodies will be part of the package too.
There’s still a lot up in the air – like just how much power this thing will make, or if Honda will sell it as a full-blown special edition or just offer a bunch of dealer-installed upgrades.

Honda Brings Its Racing Heritage to SEMA 2026
But the Civic Type R HRC Concept isn’t stealing the whole show. Honda’s SEMA booth will be packed with 12 race cars, from the wild new Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck to a Hasport Prelude Club Racer, Felix Rosenqvist’s 2026 Indy 500-winning IndyCar, and the 2026 Acura ARX-06 GTP prototype.
The Passport Baja Spec is especially wild, packing a 2.4-liter twin-turbo V6 and an 800-volt hybrid setup for over 1,300 horsepower. Honda claims it’ll be the first hybrid Trophy Truck to take on the SCORE World Desert Championship.
HRC is also rolling out its first batch of Performance Parts for Honda and Acura street cars. We’re talking lightweight forged wheels, new exhausts, and a short-throw shifter for the Civic Type R, Integra Type S, and Passport TrailSport. After final testing, these goodies should hit dealerships and the Honda DreamShop in March 2027.
