The majority of modern track cars, like the
Porsche 911 GT3, are quicker on the race track with quick-shifting dual-clutch automatic transmissions than they are with manual gearboxes. The
Ford Shelby GT350 and hardcore
GT350R, on the other hand, are red-blooded track-biased machines that still put shifting in the drivers’ hands with a six-speed manual as the only option. According to a report from
Road and Trackthat cites
Mustang6G.com, this could change as the GT350 is rumored to get a dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option within in the next few years.

A dual-clutch transmission would help the GT350 set quicker lap times around a track and place the vehicle higher up in the realm of high-performance vehicles. Ferrari, BMW, and Porsche use dual-clutch units in their vehicles. The upcoming
2017 Ford GT will come with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sourced from Getrag, but it’s unclear if the same unit will be modified to fit inside the Mustang.
