It seems like a no-brainer — pay a couple
hundred bucks extra and you get a warranty, intensive inspection, and a like-new guarantee from the dealer. It’s a
program that has taken off in the United States, offering dealers some extra cash and consumers some peace of
mind.
Those who have cared to take a closer look, however, think that certified used programs are a scam by
manufacturers and dealers to get more money on used car sales, and that all used cars that enter the dealer’s lot are
given the same inspection.
With over 200,000 sales of certified used vehicles going into Ford’s coffers in 2005
and over 530,000 going into those of GM, it would appear that the numbers speak for themselves.
Scam or security?
