BenQ, the electronics producer, is working on
PC systems for automobiles. The Taiwanese company is researching several products, but nothing is being formally
announced. BenQ is taking part of a growing trend in the automotive industry, but we wonder about how competitive they
will be against established suppliers. We suspect their products may be aimed at more ‘aftermarket’ applications, since
BenQ is already known for their display products in the consumer space. Computer systems for automobiles are set to
experience major growth as navigation systems and mulitmedia make there way into production vehicles. BenQ will
undoubtedly be focused on hardware production. The real opportunities are in software design, as software content in
automobiles is set to increase substantially over the next few years.
