Canada’s transportation minister has given automakers until September 1, 2007 to equip all cars with anti-theft
devices. The immobilization devices will be mandatory on all cars sold in Canada. The anti-theft devices cuts power to
the starter, ignition and fuel supply which safety regulators hope will end soaring car theft and “collision-related
injuries that sometime result from these thefts”. Statistics say that a large percentage of stolen cars each year are
older models that do not have the immobilization devices.
