United Kingdom sees gas-price protests

With fuel prices hitting £1/liter in the UK (that’s nearly $7/gallon), drivers have been staging rolling blockades of refineries. Motorists are unhappy with the government’s decision not to decrease taxation on fuel so that prices can be decreased, and want to bring additional attention to the issue. Hopefully their strategy works, for the only likely short-term effect of such a disruption is even higher prices at the pump. Truck drivers may be planning similar protests in France and Spain, as well. We saw a protest somewhat like this in the US about a month ago, back when diesel was only $2.45. Ah, those were the days. Thanks to our reader Andy for the tip.
