UAW unanimously endorses GM deal

The national leadership of the United Auto Workers union has unanimously endorsed its deal with General Motors that will significantly reduce the giant automaker’s health care bill. The tentative agreement still has to be finalized, but the UAW has accepted the fact that every active and retired member will have to sacrifice in order to maintain their health care coverage. The deal, which will reduce the General’s health care costs by $3 billion a year, should give GM a little breathing room and put some cash back in the coffers.
