Toyota's growth fueling its recalls

Just like children, companies can grow so fast that sometimes
their parents begin losing control. Toyota apparently is facing just such a problem, as the number of recalls on its
vehicles have doubled in 2005.

Most analysts agree that the quality issues are caused by the high demand for the Toyota’s vehicles, coupled with the
limited number of manufacturing plants in the U.S. That may change as the company prepares to expand its facilities and
its new partnership with Subaru. Others point out that the federal TREND Act also influences the numbers since it makes
even minor issues inclusive to reporting.

(Remember when GM ‘taunted’ Toyota on its recalls? While
the above can be construed to its favor, the King of the Hill – for now – is wisely keeping its mouth shut.)
