Toyota is eyeing a site in Ontario, Canada to build a new
manufacturing plant. Toyota has been considering this location for several months, and although there is no official
announcement that a plant will be built Toyota has already purchased the 1,000-acre site for $477.7
million. Apparently, Toyota has chosen a Canadian site due to labor costs and the plant may be earmarked for small
car production, maybe even Scions. In the past month, Toyota has also announced new facilities or expansions in Russia,
Thailand, and Indonesia. Reports also indicate expansion is being considered in China and
Mexico. Toyota is continuing to get closer and closer to the volume of GM, and is on course to overtake GM as
number one car producer if the General doesn’t act quickly.
