The West Central Cooperative in
Ralston, Iowa, and General Atomics in San Diego, California, have received a $3.3 million grant from the federal
government to find out if biodiesel processing can dissolve the plastic waste produced by U.S. forces in Iraq.
Called “The Battlefield Plastic Biodiesel” project, the three year research project would dispose of
the plastic in the war-torn country while simultaneously providing fuel for diesel-powered vehicles in the area.
