The Big O is now the first state in our union to require drivers to slow to 20 mph in most school zones. The
controversial part is that they want the law followed 24/7, even when no children are present. The alleged reasoning is
that there are often evening activities happening at schools and that motorists should get into the habit of decreasing
their speeds for times when kids are around. However, officer Jim Wolf of the Tigard Police Department is keeping it
real: “At 3:00 AM a child is not reasonably expected to b at an elementary school playground or on the property. So in
essence, the 20 is not going to be enforced.”
