Nissan wans to catch up in the hybrid game with Altimas

Clearly behind in the race to sell hybrid vehicles, Nissan will begin selling hybrid Altimas in 2006. They will license the technology from Toyota and hope to sell 50,000 a year.  There’s a reason for that sales number from Nissan— in order to help meet the US fuel standards for corporate fuel economy, they will need to sell 50,000. Like the hybrid Toyota Camry, Nissan will build the hybrid Altima in the US with parts exported from Japan. Currently, AutoWeek believes they will build it from either the Smyna, Tenn. plant or the Canton, Miss. plant.
