A Russian company called Avtotor will help bring the popular Hummer H2 to the Russian market this year. The weird
part is that they plan to actually assemble the vehicles themselves. The company has invested $80 million the project,
and the goal is to produce (only?) 500 H2s a year, each of which will demand the Russian equivalent of $86,000 U.S.
dollars. The company currently has about 175 kits ready to go. How investing $80 mil only and putting the
vehicles together themselves will end up turning a profit for the company is beyond me. Perhaps it won’t. It seems like
a more cost-effective method would be to import H2s on the gray market and make the necessary conversions
afterward.
