News that GM is building hybrid-powered vehicles has been available for some time now. But what exactly is the
world’s largest automaker doing? Automotive News spoke with Larry
Nitz, the executive director to GM’s global hybrid powertrains.
Mr. Nitz fielded questions about how GM
had learned from the now defunct electric vehicle (EV) program; talks with suppliers on powertrain parts; staffing; and
narrowing down powertrain choices. He briefly mentioned GM sharing its hybrid technology with DaimlerChrysler and BMW.

Mr. Nitz could not answer the question if GM would make money on their hybrid vehicles. (Note: even Toyota,
the leader in hybrid vehicles, is losing money for every Prius sold in the market.)
