Pricing has been announced for the 2006 Ford Fusion. A base model will set the buyer back
by $17,995, while ordering up the V-6 bumps the price up to $21,275. An SEL model with the I4/5-speed auto combination
will be $20,500, and will be priced under $22,400 with the V6. Ford Division president Darryl Hazel says,
“The war of attrition is over. We are going to continue building our car market share by entering
new segments with vehicles like Fusion.” That seems like an odd statement to make upon re-entering the hottest
segment of the passenger-car market. The pricing seems good, but that might not count for much if the hardware isn’t
class-leading. We should know more as vehicles are released to the press for evaluation.
