Daimler-Chrysler’s press introductions are a coveted assignment at the North American International Auto Show.
The company’s PR minions are known for their peerless inventiveness and for providing a welcome respite from the
seemingly endless parade of monotone speeches and drab number-spouting that are the hallmark of many a Detroit
presser. But the automaker isn’t infallible, and that’s apparently particularly true when it gets a
little Desperate.
The singularly gorgeous Eva Longoria, best known for her role on ABC’s Desperate
Housewives, was called in to plug Chrysler’s Imperial
concept, with surprisingly unattractive results. And it wasn’t just the big sedan’s love/hate design that derailed
the proceedings. The carpet buckled and rolled under the Imperial’s heft, pushing the cut-pile up against the concept’s
bluff face as it rolled on stage, and Longoria flubbed a play-on-words regarding her suburban vocation.
DCX’s
Montsano moment or Longoria’s line lapse aside, this author remains a little bitter that he drew David Spade duty instead of hangin’
with a certain Housewife or even Law and Order’s husky-voiced hottie, Angie Harmon. Oh well, there’s always next
year.
