DaimlerChrysler and General Motors are expected to complete their talks on
joint development of a hybrid system this year. Chrysler Corp President Dieter Zetsche has told reporters that
dicussions about the joint-developed two-mode hybrid system could bring the system into production by the end of 2007
or the beginning of 2008. It appears that GM and DCX will not only develop the system jointly, but they will also
build the components together. The system is being developed for use in GM, Chrysler
and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It is being designed for use in rear wheel drive as well as front wheel drive vehicles,
making it as flexible as Toyota’s Synergy system.
