After GM swung a sweet deal with the UAW that will save it billions in health care costs, Chrysler wants a piece of
the action, too. Dieter Zetsche, DaimlerChrysler’s new boss-designate, announced that Chrysler would seek comparable
health care breaks from the UAW. Zetsche indicated that Chrysler has an understanding with the UAW that any health care
deals with GM would be applied to Chrysler as well. While Chrysler’s retiree base doesn’t even come close to the size
of GM’s, analysts say that Chrysler could still save in the neighborhood of $4 billion if a similar deal is struck.
