A day after announcing that Ford will dramatically
increase its hybrid production, Bill Ford Jr. is calling for a summit between automakers and President Bush as a
way to work towards automotive solutions for the nation’s energy issues. Ford’s CEO feels that the new Energy Policy
Act is a step in the right direction, but further action will be required, and Ford’s VP of corporate affairs
Ziad Ojakli states, “We’re in the midst of the perfect energy security
crisis”. Now, given their past history, this does not strike me as a group of people that are most willing to
tackle the problem, but they are the ones with the ability to do something about it so it’ll be interesting to see what
comes out of this effort.
