Professionals and super serious hobbyists might enjoy building their tool collection one-by-one, painstakingly deciding which set of screwdrivers or chisels or sockets best suits their highly specific needs. For the rest of us, there are tool sets, comprehensive collections of hand tools, almost always with a case of some sort, that you can buy in one fell swoop.
Right now, Amazon has worthwhile discounts on tons of well-reviewed tool sets. There are sets for aspiring mechanics, renovators, and those who just want to build flat-pack furniture or make minor home repairs on sale. No matter which category you fall in, there’s a set here that can fill the gaps in your tool collection once and for all. Shop our top five picks below.
The selling point of this set is its sheer size, 412 pieces that include everything from a saw to Allen wrenches to scissors. It comes in pink, red, or yellow, all of which are priced within a few dollars of each other. Plus, it comes with a clever tool box that opens like a briefcase and has a slide-out drawer for easy access to the entire set.
There aren’t many more trusted tool brands than Craftsman, and this set shows why. Marketed to mechanics and equally suited for amateur car tinkerers, it comes with a complete collection of sockets, wrenches, ratchets, and accessories so you can loosen and tighten to your heart’s content.
Designed for general household use, this 259-piece set has everything the vast majority of weekend warriors will ever need (and some tools they’ll almost certainly never use). We’re talking six different kinds of screwdriver bits, wrenches, clamps, and even some wall anchor hardware. It’s all housed in a hard plastic case, so even if it is technically more than you need at least it will stay organized.
This mechanics set is a bit smaller and simpler. It comes with a ratchet, screwdriver handle, and plenty of sockets, bits, adaptors, and extenders that fit into both of them. Everything is made of professional grade, corrosion-resistant chrome vanadium steel and features clever design elements like a low-profile socket built for tight spaces, anti-slip grooves on the handle of the screwdriver, and a quick-release mechanism on the socket for easy one-handed operation.
This inexpensive set is perfect for renters and others who know they’ll never attempt serious home repairs. It comes with all the necessary tools for the most minor repair and assembly tasks, all for a price that’s normally quite good but, with a 42% discount, now qualifies as great. If you’ve got a kid moving away for the first time or you want a tool set for the car that won’t take up much room, this is a great choice.
