A hot garage or workshop can make even a simple summer project feel miserable. No matter if you’re working on a vehicle, cleaning up the garage, getting your new tools put away, sanding, painting, or trying to finish something at the workbench, a portable AC unit can help make the space feel usable again. It’s also a great option for basements, sheds, bedrooms, offices, apartments, and other rooms around the house that don’t cool as well as the rest of the home.
Right now, the Tolsprint 8,500 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is on sale at Walmart for $220, almost 50% off its normal $434 price. It’s listed with 8,500 BTU cooling with coverage for spaces up to 360 square feet. That gives it enough output for targeted cooling in a garage bay, small shop area, basement, shed, bedroom, or living space, though setup still requires venting hot air outside through a window.
This unit has cooling, ventilation, and dehumidification modes, so it can do more than just blow cold air. The temperature can be set from 61 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’s designed to quickly cool a room from 86 to 77 degrees. It also has a listed 171 cubic feet per minute airflow rate, 55-pint-per-day dehumidifying capacity, sleep mode, a 24-hour timer, a digital display, and a remote control.
The caster wheels make it easier to roll between rooms, while the included exhaust hose, adapter, window kit, drain hose, remote, and user guide give you the main pieces needed for setup. For beating summer heat in a garage, workshop, basement, shed, or extra room, this is a useful portable cooling option that doesn’t require a permanent installation.
One reviewer said, “It cools so fast. The [other] modes are also very practical. The dehumidification mode can make the house less humid, and the fan mode is also great for daily ventilation. With this, summer can finally be comfortable.”
Another reviewer said, “This is well worth the money. It’s just amazing how fast it cools.”
