A portable AC unit can make a garage or workshop much more usable during the heart of summer. If you’re working on a car, organizing tools, finishing a project, or spending time in a space that heats up fast, extra cooling can be the difference between getting something done and giving up after 20 minutes. Portable air conditioners are also useful in basements, bedrooms, home offices, apartments, sheds, cabins, and other rooms where the main HVAC system doesn’t quite keep up.
Thanks to this clearance sale we found at Walmart, the DuraComfort 8,500 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is on sale for just $185, a solid 40% discount off its usual $310 price. It’s listed at 8,500 BTU, with cooling for spaces up to 250 square feet. That makes it a great option for smaller garages, workshops, finished basements, bedrooms, dorms, campers, RVs, and other compact areas where a permanent window unit or mini split may not be practical.
The 3-in-1 design gives you cooling, dehumidifier, and fan modes, which is helpful when summer heat and humidity both make a space uncomfortable. It has two fan speeds, a 64 to 90 degree Fahrenheit temperature range, a 24-hour timer, sleep mode, remote control, and a noise level listed under 54 decibels.
The included adjustable exhaust hose extends up to 59 inches, and the window kit works with horizontal and vertical sliding windows for easier setup without permanent installation. The self-evaporating design can also reduce manual draining during normal cooling use. For beating the summer heat in a garage, workshop, basement, camper, RV, or extra room around the house, this is a nice cooling upgrade at $185.
One buyer said, “The machine works well, I used it the whole summer with no problem at all. It’s pretty much plug-and-play.”
“We used this for our camper during the summer and it was amazing,” commented a second happy shopper. “It made our vacation so much more pleasant.”
