Mid-summer garage work can get rough fast, especially when you’re wrenching on a car, organizing tools, working on equipment, or trying to finish a project in a space that traps heat all day. A bigger portable AC unit can make a real difference because it has enough cooling capacity for more than just a bedroom or small office. But a good portable air conditioner can help cool a garage, workshop, basement, shed, outbuilding, or other hot room around the house when fans alone aren’t cutting it.
Just in time for the hottest parts of summer, the Garvee 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner is on sale at Walmart for $170, down from its normal $550 price. There is a $90 shipping fee, but even with that added in, this is still one of the best deals we’ve seen on a portable AC unit this big. It’s rated at up to 14,000 BTU, with listed coverage for 550 to 750 square feet, making it a strong option for larger rooms, garage work areas, shops, basements, offices, dorms, and other hot, stuffy spaces.
The 3-in-1 design gives you cooling, fan, and dehumidifier modes, which is helpful during humid summer weather when the air can feel heavy, even indoors. It also comes with dual motors, auto swing, a follow me function, remote control, 24-hour timer, quiet operation, and a temperature range from 64 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The unit measures 14 inches deep, 16.5 inches wide, and 27.6 inches tall, and the built-in wheels and handles make it easier to move between rooms or work areas when needed. You’ll also get a window kit for easier installation.
For keeping a garage cooler while working on cars, making a workshop more usable, or cooling a hot basement or outbuilding, this is a lot of AC capacity for the money.
One reviewer raved about its performance, saying, “The air conditioner is powerful and even on the lowest setting, it blows like a hurricane.”
“This is great so far,” said a second happy shopper. “It’s easy to set up, the side handles make lifting easier, and the weight is so much lighter than other models.”
