Overview
A small footprint and a decent driving range are highlights of the 2026 Volvo EX30 subcompact electric luxury SUV. It sits at the base of Volvo’s all-electric lineup, positioned even below the subcompact EX40, and offers either rear-wheel-drive Single Motor or all-wheel-drive Twin Motor powertrains. A new Cross Country variant extends the lineup into light off-road territory for buyers who value versatility alongside Scandinavian minimalism.

What’s New for 2026?
The 2026 EX30 gains two significant additions for the model year. A rear-wheel-drive Single Motor Plus joins as the new entry-level model with 261 miles of EPA-rated range. The Cross Country (above and below) is the more important arrival, the first electric Volvo to carry that badge, riding 0.8 inches higher on revised springs and a softened rear anti-roll bar. The EX30’s regenerative braking also gains a new “off” coasting setting and an aggressive “high” setting across the lineup.
Exterior
The Cross Country’s exterior identity comes from front and rear skid plates, flared wheel arches, and darkened body cladding that separate it from the standard EX30. Standard equipment on the Cross Country includes 18-inch exclusive wheels, with an upgrade to 19-inch wheels and street tires or 18-inch all-terrain tires. The standard EX30 retains its upright roofline, Thor’s Hammer LED signatures at both ends, and the same five color choices from 2025.

Interior
A 12.3-inch portrait touchscreen running Google Built-in serves as the sole control interface across the lineup, with no dedicated instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. Four leather-free interior themes made from recycled and natural materials carry over from 2025. The Twin Motor Performance Plus adds a Harman Kardon audio system and a panoramic roof, while Ultra gains the 360-degree camera and next-generation Park Pilot Assist semi-autonomous parking. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard across all trims.

The 2026 Volvo EX30’s price range spans three trims for the standard lineup and one dedicated Cross Country trim. The Twin Motor Performance Plus offers good value, adding the 19-inch wheels, the panoramic roof, and the Harman Kardon audio system over the base Single Motor.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Single Motor delivers up to 261 miles of EPA range.
- Cross Country adds light off-road capability, a segment first.
- Google Built-in and wireless Apple CarPlay standard on all trims.
Cons
- No dedicated instrument cluster on any trim.
- Cross Country range drops to 203 miles on 18-inch wheels.
- Basic warranty of 4 years undercuts most segment rivals.
Verdict
The Cross Country is the headline change for 2026, and no rival in the subcompact electric SUV segment currently offers a comparable variant. Its range penalty is real though, with 227 miles on 19-inch street tires and wheels trailing the standard Single Motor’s 261-mile figure by 34 miles. The new Single Motor Plus entry point brings the EX30 closer in price to the Hyundai Kona Electric, though the absent instrument cluster and tight rear seat remain unaddressed. Buyers who want AWD capability without the Cross Country’s premium pricing will find the Twin Motor Performance Plus the most complete package in the lineup.
