Overview
The 2025 Ram HD (2500/3500) delivers true heavy-duty capability with a standard 6.4-liter HEMI gas V8 with 405 horsepower/429 lb-ft and an optional 6.7-liter turbo-diesel Cummins inline six-cylinder with 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard, but four-wheel drive is available, and towing capacity maxes out at 36,610 pounds. Its main rivals are the Ford F-Series Super Duty, GMC Sierra HD, and Chevrolet Silverado HD.
What’s New for 2025
The exterior is updated to align the HD with the Ram 1500, so the truck features new grilles and split LED headlights, while the taillights are revised, too. There are design changes inside as well, the biggest being larger Uconnect infotainment screens with a five-times-faster electronic architecture; the eight-inch display grows to 8.4 inches (standard on the two base trims), while the 12-inch display is still available (optional on the two base trims; standard on the mid-range trims). They are joined by an even larger 14.5-inch display that’s standard on the two Limited trims and optional on the mid-range trims. A 10.25-inch passenger screen is also now optional.
A redesigned 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engine now has 430 hp (up from 400 hp), but torque remains 1,075 lb-ft. The low-output 370-hp/850-lb-ft Cummins is gone. The gas engine is downrated slightly from 410 to 405 hp, but still has 429 lb-ft. The diesels get a new eight-speed automatic transmission to replace the old six-speed unit (the 6.4L gas engine already had an eight-speed auto). Small reductions have been made to the maximum payload and tow ratings; the former drops by 90 lbs to 7,590 lbs, and the latter by 480 lbs to 36,610 lbs.
Some of the other changes include the addition of a bunch of newly standard driver assists, notably front-collision alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and lane-keep assist.
Exterior
The bold exterior has a heavy-duty presence that can’t be ignored, and it looks smarter now thanks to the reworked front and rear lighting elements. Grille designs are trim-dependent, as before. There are also three cab sizes, namely the two-door Regular Cab and the four-door Crew Cab and Mega Cab versions, the latter offering the most spacious rear-seat seating in the segment. There are two bed lengths too – 6-foot-4 and 8-foot – while the Rebel and Power Wagon have distinctive off-road styling. Dual rear wheels (DRWs) and a Chassis Cab configuration are exclusively available for the 3500 derivatives.

RAM
Interior
The spacious cabin is solidly built and features some genuinely premium materials on the top trims, like the leather-and-suede upholstery on the Laramie. The base touchscreen is a little bigger, but the 12- and 14.5-inch high-constrast displays really make an impression, and even the passenger can get a 10.25-inch display now. The new electronic architecture also makes the system five times faster and much more responsive. Dual wireless phone chargers are available. The Mega Cab offers seating for up to six and class-leading second-row space.
