Overview
The 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman is a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe and one of the most driver-focused cars in Porsche’s lineup. It runs three engine families: a 2.0-liter turbo flat-four with 300 hp, a 2.5-liter turbo flat-four with 350 hp, and a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six producing 394 hp in GTS 4.0 form or 493 hp in the GT4 RS. A 7-speed PDK comes standard, with a 6-speed manual offered at no extra cost, except on the GT4 RS. The mid-engine layout delivers near-perfect weight distribution, giving the car its precise, balanced feel. It suits drivers who value handling clarity and connection.

What’s New for 2025
The 2025 718 Cayman carries over essentially unchanged as the current generation nears the end of its lifecycle. Porsche removes the standard GT4 trim, though the GT4 RS remains. The lineup continues without updates after the 2024 changes, including the Style Edition and a simplified range following the removal of the T and GT4 variants.
The 7-speed PDK is now the standard transmission, but the 6-speed manual is still optional and now includes the Sport Chrono package at no extra cost. Porsche adds eleven exterior colors, including broader access to Vanadium Grey Metallic. This year likely marks the final production run for the 982-generation Cayman, with an electric successor in development. Core mechanicals remain unchanged, adding significance for long-term buyers.
Exterior
The Porsche 718 Cayman features a low, wide stance with short overhangs. Wheel sizes range from 18 inches on the base model to 20 inches on the GTS 4.0 and GT4 RS, with 19-inch wheels on the S. The Style Edition adds Spyder RS wheels.
The GT4 RS includes a fixed rear wing and functional NACA ducts. LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System come standard. Overall length ranges from 172.4 to 175.4 inches, keeping the car compact and easy to place.

Interior
The cabin of the 718 Cayman follows a driver-focused layout with a rising center console and a 3-gauge cluster centered around the tachometer. A 7.0-inch touchscreen runs Porsche Communication Management with Apple CarPlay, but still no Android Auto, after all these years.
Leather sport seats come standard, with Alcantara in the GTS 4.0 and carbon bucket seats in the GT4 RS. The S and higher trims include a Bose system, with Burmester as an upgrade. Combined cargo space measures 15 cu-ft across front and rear trunks.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Mid-engine balance delivers world-class handling unmatched in its price range
- GTS 4.0’s naturally aspirated H6 stands among the best engines in any car
- 6-speed manual includes Sport Chrono at no extra cost
- 15.0 cu-ft of cargo capacity supports weekend usability
Cons:
- No Android Auto support
- 7-inch touchscreen feels small and dated
- Base turbo flat-four lacks the character of the flat-six models
- Production ending in 2025 raises questions about long-term parts support
Verdict
The Porsche 718 Cayman mid-engine sports coupe remains a benchmark for driving precision as this generation reaches its final year. The base model delivers 300 hp through a balanced chassis, while the GTS 4.0 pairs its flat-six with a sound and response the turbo engines cannot match. The GT4 RS pushes further with 493 hp and a 3.2-second sprint to 60 mph, focused on track performance.
The small screen and lack of Android Auto show the car’s age, but they do not take away from its core strengths. For drivers who value engagement over tech, the 718 Cayman continues to set the standard.
