Overview
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a plug-in hybrid midsize SUV and serves as the electrified evolution of one of America’s most celebrated SUV nameplates. The Grand Cherokee’s legendary trail-conquering Jeep credentials get a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, a 17.3-kW battery, and two electric motors in this application, putting out 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic and 4WD are part of the deal, along with 26 miles of electric range. Six trims span from rugged to opulent, giving a wide choice to buyers looking for electric everyday commuting and plug-in efficiency without sacrificing weekend wilderness escapes and serious off-road ability.

What’s New for 2025
The 2025 Grand Cherokee 4xe returns unchanged as Jeep winds down production of its powertrain, which is being discontinued, and which means there will be no 2026 4xe Jeeps. A swansong Grand Cherokee 4xe Anniversary Edition will be available in limited numbers this year, with blacked-out exterior trim and black 20-inch wheels.
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe’s price starts at the same $60,490 as last year, but the destination fee is up by $200 to $1,995.

Exterior
The Grand Cherokee 4xe looks for all the world like a gas Grand, but for the subtle 4xe badging and signature Electric Blue tow hooks. The slim LED headlights, 7-slot grille, and familiar rugged but refined profile are as per the gas model. Base and Trailhawk trims run 18-inch wheels and the rest 20s, with 21s optional on the Summit. A panoramic sunroof is optional on the Trailhawk and standard on the rest, while the power liftgate has hand-free activation on the Overland and Summit. The Trailhawk gains red tow hooks, trim-specific skid plates, an off-road camera, and a black roof.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Quickest Grand Cherokee ever (0-60 in 5.3 seconds)
- Genuine off-road capability
- Luxurious upper trims
- Federal tax credit eligibility
- Smooth ride
Cons:
- Short 26-mile electric range
- Premium fuel recommended
- Gas-mode fuel economy only marginally better than V6
- Pricey loaded trims
- Occasionally rough gas-to-electric handoffs
Verdict
Plug-in hybrids are rare in this class, and most, like the Mazda CX-70, lack the off-road credentials of the Grand Cherokee 4xe, which puts the Jeep in a unique position in this class, offering all-electric commuting for up to 26 miles on weekdays with gas-powered adventure road tripping well off the beaten path on weekends.Â
However, it only makes financial sense if you charge at home every night, don’t venture to far from home daily, and make full use of the electric range, else you’re better off with a gas model. For the right buyer, it’s uniquely compelling, but Jeep and sales numbers seem to disagree, so be warned that this drivetrain won’t be available next year.
