Overview

The 2026 GMC Sierra EV full-size electric pickup truck shares GM’s Ultium platform and 800-volt architecture with the Chevy Silverado EV and Hummer EV. This year, it comes with three battery sizes offering up to 478 miles of range and with power outputs ranging from 605 to 760 hp. All variants have a dual-motor e4WD system and come with genuine work capability, including a maximum payload of 2,250 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 12,500 pounds.

Tech types will love the 16.8-inch infotainment display with Google Built-In and the available Super Cruise hands-free driving. This truck allows truck buyers to go electric without sacrificing hauling or towing capability.

What’s New for 2026?

The 2026 Sierra EV range finally expands with its long-awaited entry-level Elevation and off-road-focused AT4 trims below the Denali. This means that the 2026 GMC Sierra EV’s price now starts at $62,400. A smaller 120-kWh Standard Range battery pack joins the Extended Range and Max Range packs and still offers 283 miles of range. The Elevation is offered with the smaller two batteries, the AT4 with the larger two, and the Denali with all three.

The AT4 introduces a trim-specific Terrain Mode for driving off-road, 35-inch tires, and lifted suspension. The two base trims run on conventional coil suspension, and the Denali on air suspension. There are some new paint colors as well.

Exterior

The Sierra EV resembles the gas Sierra, with a similar two-box truck silhouette, but it’s more aerodynamic, with a bold front fascia, a closed grille panel, and vertical air curtains, while the seamless transition between body and bed reminds you of its EV architecture. The Denali has a red-illuminated front GMC badge, an illuminated perimeter grille, and 24-inch alloy wheels with 35-inch tires. The AT4 is rugged, with all-terrain tires and lifted suspension. A 6-function MultiPro tailgate is standard, and a MultiPro Midgate is available, the latter extending the bed to almost 11 feet.

Interior

In the tech-forward cabin, an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and 16.8-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In are standard, with native Google Maps, Assistant, and Play Store. The top two trims add 7-speaker Bose audio and a 14-inch head-up display. A heated steering wheel and heated power front seats are standard; AT4 and Denali add ventilated front seats and heated outboard rear seats. The Denali gets seat quilting and genuine wood accents. The cabin is spacious, front and rear.

Price Range and Best Value Trim

The Elevation Extended Range strikes us as the best value, pairing a decent feature set with a 410-mile range at only $70K.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Industry-leading 478-mile range (Max Range battery)
  • 12,500-lbs towing & 2,250-lbs payload capability
  • MultiPro MidGate extends bed to 10’10”
  • 800-V fast charging adds 100 miles in 10 minutes

Cons

  • Base warranty shorter than some EVs
  • Lower energy efficiency than R1T and F-150 Lightning
  • Denali Max Range close to $100,000
  • Ride quality can feel firm on rough pavement

Verdict

The 2026 Sierra EV takes a major step forward by expanding the range with two base trims and a Standard Range battery, dropping the entry price to $62,400 and undercutting the Cybertruck, despite even base trims packing a full 605 hp and with standard AWD. The 478-mile range possible on the Max Range battery leads the EV truck segment, too, but even the Standard Range battery delivers a competitive 283 miles. The 800-V architecture allows you to add 100 miles in about 10 minutes.

The Sierra EV scores on utility as well, with the standard MultiPro tailgate and innovative available MultiPro Midgate. The lifted AT4 is a handy off-road trim, but the Elevation with the Extended Range battery is the best overall value with 410 miles of range and plenty of standard features. With 2,250 lbs of payload and 12,500 lbs of towing capacity, it works like a real truck, too. It makes transitioning to electricity easy for truck owners, and that’s surely what it’s all about.
