Overview
The 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe compact luxury sedan continues the evolution of the German automaker’s 4-door coupes that it introduced more than a decade ago. For the 2025 model year, in the U.S., the lineup starts with the 430i Gran Coupe and extends to the M440i Gran Coupe. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while xDrive all-wheel drive is available across the range.
The 430i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 255 horsepower, while the M440i comes with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six delivering 386 hp. Both pair with 8-speed automatic transmissions. The 4-door 4 Series Gran Coupe addresses buyers’ craving for a coupe-styled vehicle with a liftback and generous cargo area.
What’s New for 2025
For 2025, BMW updates the 4 Series Gran Coupe with meaningful but not transformative changes. Both engines now feature 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, and the M440i rises to 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Exterior revisions include a refreshed kidney grille, revised headlight graphics, and available Laserlight taillights inspired by the M4 CSL.
Inside, BMW moves the car to Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect, and separate physical climate controls are no longer part of the dashboard layout. BMW also adds new steering-wheel designs, fresh trim choices including M Fine Brushed Aluminum, and new paint colors such as Cape York Green and Vegas Red. The result is a cleaner, more contemporary Gran Coupe rather than a new one.
Exterior
The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe stands apart from the 3 Series through its sloping roofline, frameless doors, and liftback rear hatch. Its face is dominated by the tall vertical kidney grille, flanked by slim LED headlights with a sharper internal light signature for 2025. The M440i adds a more aggressive grille treatment, stronger bumper detailing, and quad exhausts that better match its performance focus. BMW also offers an M Carbon package that adds CFRP exterior pieces, including mirror caps, a rear diffuser element, and a rear spoiler.
Standard wheels start at 18 inches, with 19s on the M440i and 20s available. The Gran Coupe measures 188.5 inches long, 72.9 inches wide, and 56.8 inches tall, with a 112.4-inch wheelbase. Those numbers place it at the heart of the compact luxury segment, but its body style gives it a more elongated, more coupe-like stance than many direct rivals.

Interior
Inside, the 2025 4 Series Gran Coupe follows BMW’s current design direction, with a curved display housing the digital instrument cluster and central touchscreen in one panel. The system runs BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. Sport seats trimmed in Sensatec leatherette, but Vernasca leather is optional. The front seats are heated.
The M440i adds a richer standard equipment level that includes Harman Kardon audio and an M steering wheel with tri-color stitching. While front-seat comfort is similar to a coupe, headroom in the back is more limited because of the sloping roofline. Behind the rear seats, the cargo area measures 16.6 cu-ft, and with the rear seatbacks folded, it expands to 45.6 cu-ft.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Strong range of engines, especially the 386-hp inline-six in the M440i
- Hatchback body adds real cargo versatility
- Sharp steering and composed road manners
- Premium cabin technology and display layout
Cons:
- Polarizing grille design
- Rear visibility is compromised by the roofline
- Rear headroom is tighter than in more upright sedans
- Pricing climbs quickly on six-cylinder and xDrive models
Verdict
The 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe succeeds because it offers something many luxury brands no longer do: a compact, premium, gasoline-powered hatchback with real performance credentials. The 430i is the sensible pick, while the M440i xDrive is the enthusiast’s version, pairing real pace with year-round traction. It is not the roomiest option in the segment, and not every buyer will like the styling, but the 2025 4 Series Gran Coupe remains a compelling alternative to a standard sport sedan.
