Overview
The 2025 BMW 2 Series Coupe compact RWD luxury sports coupe comes in two guises: a 230i with a 255-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an M240I with a 382-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder. Both come with rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission, but can be upgraded to xDrive AWD. The 2 Series is the most affordable BMW in the U.S., and delivers the signature RWD BMW driver engagement, so it’s ideal for enthusiasts who want a compact luxury coupe with genuine performance and handling talent.
What’s New for 2025?
The 2025 2 Series Coupe finally gets iDrive 8.5 infotainment software and Curved Display, comprising a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen, and the ambient interior lighting is updated at the same time. These changes are accompanied by new steering wheels: a two-spoke item for the 230i and a flat-bottomed M wheel trimmed in leather for the M240i.
Additional paint colors include Vegas Red and Skyscraper Grey, while the previously M2-exclusive Zandvoort Blue is now offered on the M240i. New double-spoke and Y-spoke 19-inch M alloy wheel designs are added to the options list. A newly available M Sport Professional package for the 230i adds a black M rear spoiler, darkened Shadowline head- and taillights, and, for the 230i, M Sport brakes with blue or red callipers (these brakes are already standard on the M240i).
The 2025 BMW 2 Series Coupe’s price starts at $39,200.
Exterior
The design isn’t as typically BMW as some other cars of the brand, with unique slim-line LED headlights, but the kidney grille is traditionally sized and not the controversially tall configuration of the 4 Series. The 230i runs on 18-inch alloy wheels, and the M240i gets M Sport styling, 19-inch wheels, quad exhaust tips, red or blue callipers, and a rear diffuser. The M Sport Professional package blacks out the trim and adds the M Sport brakes and colored callipers to the 230i. At 179.4 inches long, the 2 Series is a significant 8.5 inches shorter than the 4 Series.

Interior
The refreshed cabin now sports the BMW iDrive 8.5 Curved Display with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen integrated behind one panel, and incorporates over-the-air updates, cloud-based navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 10-speaker audio system is standard, but a premium Harman Kardon setup is available. Forward-collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, speed-limit assist, and lane-keep assist are standard.
Adjustable multi-color ambient lighting and Sensatec leatherette upholstery are standard, but Vernasca leather is optional. The M240i adds a power glass moonroof. The front cabin is spacious, but the rear seat has only 32.2 inches of legroom and 35 inches of headroom, so it’s better suited to children.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- RWD architecture delivers genuine driver engagement, rare at this price point
- M240i’s 382-hp I6 provides thrilling performance with a 4.1-second 0-60 (xDrive)
- Compact size and 30 MPG combined (230i)
- 13.8-cu-ft trunk offers surprising daily practicality
Cons:
- Rear seat is cramped for adults, limiting its usefulness as a true four-seater
- No manual transmission available on any 2 Series Coupe trim
- Steering lacks tactile feedback despite otherwise engaging chassis dynamics
Verdict
The BMW 2 Series is one of the purest expressions of BMW, with a compact two-door body, standard rear-wheel drive, and a level of driver engagement that bests the more expensive 4 Series. It’s best with BMW’s signature inline six-pot and RWD in the M240i, while the M240i adds even more sure-footedness and an M2-equalling 0-60 time.
The refreshed cabin and overhauled infotainment bring the car right up to date, and the M Sport Professional package adds some visual aggression affordably. Steering feel can justifiably be criticized, and the rear quarters aren’t meant for adults, but it nails the fundamentals, despite these minor shortcomings.
