Overview
The 2027 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is a subcompact luxury sedan with a coupe-like profile, best compared to the Mercedes-Benz CLA, though the more conventionally styled Audi A3 and now-discontinued Cadillac CT4 are also class rivals. Based on the UKL2 platform made to accommodate transverse 4-cylinder engines shared with Mini, the FWD-based powertrains all use a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with either 241 hp in the 228 models or 312 hp in the M235. All trims are AWD, except for the base 228 trim, which can also be had with FWD. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard.

What’s New for 2027
After a redesign for the 2025 model year and a new FWD variant of the 228 last year, the 2027 2 Series Gran Coupe will carry over unchanged.
Exterior
The 2 Series Gran Coupe’s styling hasn’t been universally praised, but it does look premium with the signature daytime running lights and familiar BMW kidney grille – here in a sane size and shape, thankfully, unlike the buckteeth of the 4 Series. The frameless doors add another premium touch. M Sport styling is standard and includes Shadowline exterior trim, an M body kit, and 18-inch M Y-spoke alloy wheels. The M235 adds a sportier grille with an M badge, black mirrors, and quad exhausts.

Interior
The premium cabin features perforated Veganza leatherette upholstery and illuminated Aluminum Graphite trim. Amenities include dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, and a BMW Curved Display with a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.7-inch center display, wireless smartphone integration, adaptive cruise control, navigation, a wireless charging pad, and a 12-speaker audio system. A head-up display, surround-view camera, a panoramic sunroof, and a heated steering wheel cost extra.
Cabin space is at a premium in the second row, with only around 35 inches of headroom and a tight 32.2 inches of legroom, making the second row more suited to children. The trunk isn’t very big, but it still beats the Audi A3.

Price Range and Best Value Trim
The 2027 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe’s price stays unchanged from last year:
| Trim Level | Price |
| Base (cheapest): 228 Gran Coupe (FWD) | $40,000 |
| Mid: 228 xDrive Gran Coupe (AWD) | $42,000 |
| Top (most expensive): M235 xDrive Gran Coupe (AWD) | $50,000 |
| Best value: 228 xDrive Gran Coupe | $42,000 |
The 228 xDrive strikes us as the best value, bringing AWD traction to the base model without getting close to the M235’s $50k price tag. We would add the $1,750 Technology package to get the head-up display, video-augmented navigation, surround-view camera, and Parking Assistance Plus.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Many standard tech features and upscale cabin
- Adaptive M Suspension is standard
- Coupe-style design is distinctive
- Strong complimentary maintenance included
Cons:
- Snug rear seat and modest trunk
- FWD-based platform lacks traditional BMW RWD feel
- $50k M235 xDrive priced close to larger BMWs
Verdict
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe puts style over function and is aimed at people who want a coupe-like luxury compact sedan, with no plans to regularly put adults in the second row. It has a premium cabin packed with the latest tech, and the base 228 in AWD format makes the most sense, giving you all-weather traction with decent performance: 0-60 mpg takes only 5.8 seconds. Add the Technology package and be done with it, because the M235 is too close in price to the 3 Series for the amount of car you get for the money.
