You can’t buy a new Golf GTI with a manual, but this low-mileage example is the next best thing.

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI was the last time the iconic hatchback was available with a manual transmission. Since then, it’s only been available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, so you’ll need a GR Corolla or Civic Type R if you want to enjoy hot hatch stick-shift thrills. All manual 2024 GTIs were known as the 380 models, with the number signifying the Mk8 GTI’s internal model code. If, like many GTI fans, you believe the sporty hatch has to have a manual, a near-perfect example has popped up for sale with only 3,800 miles. This is your chance to drive off in a practically new, manual GTI.

Everything A GTI Should Be

The Golf GTI’s outstanding quality has always been in how it ideally balances power, responsiveness, handling poise, and value. There’s not too much or too little of anything, and its all-round capability makes it the perfect hatchback for most people.

This 380 S is finished in Opal White Pearl paint over nostalgic plaid upholstery in black. It’s not a heavily optioned model, but sometimes less is more. Being a 380, this GTI has 19-inch gloss-black alloys and the DCC adaptive damping system. In the Cars & Bids listing, the owner notes no modifications besides a WeatherTech rear bumper protector. Due to the ultra-low mileage of 3,800 miles, the car has not yet required its first service.

Like the more powerful Golf R, the GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. Here, however, power goes to the front wheels exclusively. With 241 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, it’s more than quick enough to have fun, but it won’t threaten to send you straight into the nearest bush like a Hellcat when you put your foot down.

Although we criticized the Mk8 GTI manual’s clutch feel in a track drive a few years ago, it’s still one of the best driver’s cars of its kind, thanks to its precise steering and responsive turbo engine.

How Much Should You Spend?

Cars & Bids

The 2024 Golf GTI 380 S cost $32,485 when new in 2024, making it the cheapest of the three trims offered at that time. As of this writing, the Opal White example seen here has a high bid of $27,500, with three days to go until the auction ends.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the fair purchase price of a 2024 GTI 380 S is $26,100, which is in line with the current maximum bid. However, we can see the high bid climbing to over $30,000 over the next few days—that’s still a great price for a nearly new GTI, and is around what you’ll pay for a new (and much milder) Civic Hatchback hybrid. This example has barely been driven and is one of the last manual GTIs ever produced, and these hatchbacks are only expected to become more desirable as they age. Other listings on Cars & Bids show very few 2024 GTI manuals being sold recently; most are older.

In the final months when VW still sold manual Golf GTIs, sales of the hatchback surged, and a significant 41% of those were manuals. That’s a high take rate for a modern manual, which is why mint examples are expected to increase in value over time.
