The definitive Toyota RAV4 trim buyer’s guide
Toyota has shaken up the RAV4 with an exclusively hybrid lineup for the compact crossover’s 2026 model year. This roster includes six standard hybrid (HEV) trims and four plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV) hybrid grades. With the PHEV lineup expected to arrive in the spring, we’ll be focusing on the 2026 RAV4’s hybrid trims, exploring performance, interior amenities, connectivity, and safety to guide your SUV choice.
RAV4 LE – $31,900

Toyota
All 2026 RAV4 HEV trims use the same 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, paired with an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission, producing 236 combined horsepower. Like the SE and XLE Premium trims, LE buyers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD), while Sport, Eco, EV, Trail, and Snow modes add versatility. Mileage for the FWD LE is rated at 47/40 city/highway mpg, but slightly declines in AWD to 46/39 city/highway mpg. Though the LE’s exterior shines with the 2026 RAV4’s redesign, opting for this base grade means receiving 17-inch steel wheels instead of alloys, with no available upgrades. This entry-level trim also lacks rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, auto on/off headlights, a power rear liftgate, and a power moonroof. Still, LED headlights/tail lights, roof rails, and dual exhaust outlets elevate its exterior.
Inside the LE, you’ll find fabric-trimmed seats and 6-way manual front seats. This trim’s standard tech, though not as advanced as higher trims, offers solid value via a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. You’ll also receive remote keyless entry and dual-zone automatic climate control with a dust and pollen filter. A comprehensive standard safety suite enhances connectivity, but features such as front/rear parking assist with automatic braking, the multi-terrain monitor, and the panoramic view monitor are unavailable.
Keep in mind: saving money on the LE means losing out on wireless smartphone charging, an automatic-dimming rearview mirror, and luxury details like a chrome-painted dash with soft-touch panels. While the 6-speaker sound system is more basic than the available 9-speaker JBL audio in upper trims, it’s not uncommon for entry-level grades in this price range to have 4 speakers.
RAV4 SE – $34,700

Toyota
There are plenty of reasons to consider the 2026 RAV4 SE over the LE. Moving up to the SE gives you sleeker 18-inch multi-spoke black sport alloy wheels, piano-black heated side mirrors, dark chrome grille accents, and a chrome rear bumper. Auto-on/off headlights are now standard, and though rain-sensing wipers, a power liftgate, and a power moonroof are options, the base LE doesn’t offer them. Fabric seats remain, but the driver’s seat gains 8-way power adjustability and lumbar support, and the shift lever and steering wheel are now leather-trimmed. Toyota further distinguishes the SE’s cabin from the LE’s with leather-wrapped armrests, blue interior stitching, and a chrome-painted dash featuring soft-touch panels. On the safety front, drivers get front- and rear-parking assist with automatic braking.
RAV4 XLE Premium – $36,100

Toyota
Mileage for the RAV4 XLE Premium is slightly lower than the LE and SE in AWD, but nothing significant at 45/38 city/highway mpg. On the exterior, the XLE Premium’s wheels aren’t as visually sharp as the SE’s with their dark gray metallic configuration, and rain-sensing wipers remain available instead of standard. However, the power liftgate is now standard, a panoramic glass roof with a front power moonroof is optional, and towing capability increases to 3,500 lbs. The XLE Premium’s most significant additions are its synthetic-leather seats, wireless phone charging, and downhill assist control. Toyota’s RAV4 XLE Premium gives you opportunities to attain luxury beyond the SE and select some options without going over, or at least staying closer to $40,000.
RAV4 Woodland – $39,900

Toyota
The off-road-focused 2026 RAV4 Woodland features standard AWD, complemented by a dedicated multi-information display (MID) monitor linked with AWD integrated management. Toyota’s AWD integrated management optimizes front-to-rear wheel power distribution based on speed, slip, and terrain. The MID screen shows real-time torque graphs, slip angles, and mode feedback for Trail, Snow, and Mud settings. MPG naturally drops some to 41/35 city/highway, but this decline doesn’t outshine the Woodland’s off-road advantages.
This trim’s exterior shines with standard rain-sensing wipers, puddle lights, and 18-inch 6-spoke matte metallic gray alloy wheels paired with all-terrain tires. Raised black roof rails, LED fog lights, and a tow hitch enhance utility, while black accents, such as the door handle, balance ruggedness with style. Like many off-road-focused SUVs, the Woodland’s power moonroof is optional, but the interior offers a premium feel with perforated soft-touch door/dash panels with red-orange accents and wireless phone charging.
RAV4 XSE – $41,300

Toyota
Similar to the RAV4 Woodland, the RAV4 XSE features standard AWD and AWD-integrated management, but it offers higher fuel economy at 43/37 city/highway mpg. Aesthetic additions include accents on the vertical LED front bumper and LED fog lights, available two-tone coloring, and 20-inch multi-spoke black alloys. The interior gains 8-way power front seats with memory settings, ventilation, and lumbar support, while an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen serve as distinguishing touches. Blue-stitched synthetic leather and suede-trimmed seats also give the cabin an added sense of character.
RAV4 Limited – $43,300

Toyota
The peak 2026 RAV4 Limited trim justifies its premium price with standard dual wireless phone charging, a nine-speaker JBL-branded audio system, a digital rearview mirror expanding environmental awareness, and standard AWD. This trim also features 18-inch machined 5-spoke dark gray metallic alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof with a front power moonroof, a fully loaded suite of driver-assist features, and a heated leather-trimmed steering wheel. However, the color head-up display with a speedometer and road-sign assist is optional, and you won’t receive the multi-terrain monitor boasting front, side, and rear views.
Final thoughts

Toyota
The Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium stands out as the smartest buy, striking an ideal balance between luxury, utility, and efficiency. While some trims like the LE tow 1,750 lbs in FWD and AWD, the XLE Premium’s available 3,500-lb towing comes in handy, alongside other options like rain-sensing wipers. Unlike the LE and SE, the XLE Premium features a standard power liftgate, and its available panoramic glass roof gives you a taste of Limited trim luxury for less money. Test drive the RAV4 XLE Premium alongside other 2026 RAV4 trims before making a purchase.
