An age of chrome and confidence
Post-war America was an auto enthusiast’s paradise. The industry was converting back from wartime production to the civilian market, and more people than ever were using their combat and factory wages to buy cars.
The Buick Super was actually a prewar model that resumed production when the conflict ended, with new styling for the more hopeful era. The Super was made between 1930 and 1958, in pretty much any configuration you could imagine — scaled-down two-door coupes, slick convertibles, beefy station wagons, touring cars, hard tops, and four-door sedans — as demonstrated in this example. This particular 1952 Buick Super 50 on Exotic Car Trader looks incredible and period-authentic with its metallic green paint job and original condition. Click here to see the full listing!

An icon of American exceptionalism
The period-accurate Glen Green Metallic is your first indication that this is a special find. Every line is thick and heavily steeped in postwar America styling, with long flowing curves and wide, gentle angles. The rear wheels are partially faired, another hallmark of the era’s aesthetic. A peculiar feature is the sun visor bolted to the outside of the vehicle, not out of place for the era but unusual to modern style and sensibilities.
As you would expect from any automobile built in the 1950s, chrome is liberally applied all over, from the oversized underbite grille and large bumpers to the rear fender fins that are distinct to the 1952 Super, as well as the mirrors, badges, and crosshair ornament on the hood. Rounding out the look, polished smooth hubcaps and whitewalls clad this machine in a perfect vintage attire.

Bench-to-bench original comfort
The interior is color-matched to the outside paint job, with cream complementing the chrome on the seats and door panels, and silver accents echoing the heavy use of chrome on the exterior. The rear bench enjoys a fold-down armrest, while the front bench is mercifully adjustable to accommodate drivers of all sizes
The oversized two-ringed, two-tone tri-spoke steering wheel is thin black leather on the outside, with a bracing silver circle inside it for support, before tapering off in a thin steering column clad in black towards the dash. Speaking of, the dashboard is a paler green with all original analogue instrumentations, chrome accents on black and cream gauges, and a cleverly disguised modern radio slipped effortlessly into the overall look. The owner notes that this authentic driving experience includes no air conditioning, but the windows can be rolled down… manually, of course.

Bright as a Fireball, and just as flashy
Rated for nearly 140 horsepower, the ‘Fireball’ Dynaflash in-line eight engine may not have the same pizzazz as the V8s in later American muscle cars, but it is alive and kicking with just over 4,300cc of power and a three-speed sliding mesh manual transmission to send all that power to the rear wheels. It all creates a driving experience known for being relaxed and perfect for cruising, and mechanical simplicity for peace of mind, easy maintenance, and repair. Also notable—and rather rare for vehicles this old—the full, original repair manual is included with the purchase!

Final thoughts: As fine a roadster as you ever did see
Speaking frankly, we’ve fallen in love at first sight with this Super. The chrome everywhere, the swooping lines, the standout pale green paint job, and the simple, clean interior all come together to make a period piece that marks a bygone era of prosperity and confidence in the future; a future that can sometimes feel starkly contrary to our modern existence.
There were so many features we didn’t even have space to bring attention to, like the Buick-proprietary VentiPorts, the graceful raised silver strip running from headlight buckets down to just before the start of the rear wheelwell, and so much more. If you have time, we definitely recommend checking out the listing and perusing all the additional photos posted there. You won’t regret it.
