Caught On Cam: Woman Caught Faking Car Accident

Authorities say this sort of fraud is commonplace in Russia

A crowd forms around a woman splayed across the hood of a car stopped in the middle of the road. Several people drag her to the sidewalk where she doesn't move.

Sounds like a terrible accident, right?

In the case of the video above, not exactly. The woman is a fraud. She's faked the accident, probably in hopes of earning some sort of financial windfall from the real victim here, the driver of the car.

Luckily, the driver had a dashcam, which caught the entire sordid incident on a video that shows the car come to a stop moments before the jogging woman decided to throw herself atop the car's hood.

A common problem

In Russia, where this crime occurred, it's not an isolated incident. Criminal acts like this one are commonplace, so drivers have armed themselves with dashcams to exonerate themselves.

When a giant meteor streaked across the Russian sky last month, it was no surprise so many dashcams captured footage of the space rock.

As the Global Post reports, "Mini video cameras – dubbed dashcams – have been growing in popularity in Russia as drivers fix them to their windshields as an insurance against erratic road users, corrupt traffic police and the arbitrary justice that is still prevalent here."
