FondTech unveils Formula E electric E-11

/
On Thursday, Italian aerodynamic consultancy firm FondTech revealed its electric, single-seat Formula E racer, the E-11. The car is the brainchild of ex-Ferrari Formula One team aerodynamicist Jean-Claude Migeot.

FondTech says its battery-powered E-11 can match the performance of today's Formula Three vehicles over a 20-minute period on any circuit across the world. To achieve this, the E-11 combines "ultra-low drag efficiency" with "high mechanical grip." That grip comes via the E-11's Migeot four-wheel-drive setup. According to FondTech, the batteries are installed deep inside the E-11's chassis to prevent safety-related issues in the event of a serious crash.

The E-11 will get its on-track shakedown in January and FondTech says its electric racer should be ready to compete in Formula E starting in 2013. Hit the jump to catch video of the E-11's aerodynamics, chassis and design.
