Not too long ago, word out of Toyota was that their upcoming price hike was partially motivated by a desire to 'help' the US automotive industry. Now, the chairman of Toyota Motor Corp, Hiroshi Okuda, is saying that is not the case. This has been part of this latest back and forth with Toyota and the English media of the world. First someone at Toyota will say one thing, only to have the comment retracted or contradicted later. I am not sure if there is some sort of short term memory problem at Toyota, or perhaps the English media is misinterpreting what they're saying, or perhaps it is some strange mixture of wishful thinking and deception. Whatever it is, it is pretty ludicrous.
