It's been a number of years since we last heard rumors about a drop-top Kia, but as the South Korean automaker continues to grow into new segments, why not stir things up again? Fan site Kia-world.net got its hands on what is claimed to be an exclusive drawing (click to enlarge) of the Kia Pro_cee'd GT Cabrio.

This rendering looks exactly like what we'd picture a topless version of the three-door hatchback to look like, but until there's any official information, we'll keep this filed under "we'll believe it when we see it." The idea of a Kia convertible sounds good to us, especially if it looks like this, but we're still waiting for the sporty model that lead designer Peter Schreyer said could happen "sooner or later" back in 2010.

Yep, the car that was supposed to be 25,000 thousand dollars and worked it's way up to the 40 - 50 thousand range. Part of the reason it was so short lived.........That and the fact that Ford couldn't engineer a location for the removable top to sit properly on the body without rubbing the paint off initially. They ever get that fixed?

In the New World Order Kia (and their parent company Hyundai) are making exceptional vehicles that are very competitive in performance, styling, and quality. Check out any recent (past 5 years) automotive magazine road tests, consumer reports, or customer satisfaction surveys (JD Powers comes to mind as well). They are built for the most past in Georgia and Alabama providing nearly 6,000 jobs to American workers. This is no longer 1999....

Are their "engineers" smart enough to make a convertible? They can't seem to do math to get MPGs estimates right.

Well I guess they must be smarter than engineers who designed and built the infamous sticking gas pedals (remember who?)

No, they have sticking throttle issues too.

Gotta love the haters... My first Kia (Spectra) went 220,000 mi with no major issues... and my current Hyundai is very well built in the USA, thank you. BTW Shawn... my credit is good, I own my own home, have a great job and I could comfortably afford anything in the under $40k range. I just chose the most for my money versus brand image. Drive what you like people and don\'t give in to all the haters! Peace.

fenix Baby, Fool your self all you like ! While the car may be ASSEMBLED in this country, you, My fellow American ? are patronizing the wrong country, as that is where the profits go. So far as 220 K ? today that's just a good average, everybodys doing that and more. My OLD 98 Buick with a 3800 engine is well north of your claim and I bet @ over 3600 lbs is very close to your MPG. I have ride, safety, and pride. go whittle your chop sticks.

We are "patronizing" a country my father nearly dies to keep free. The jobs in the US are paying competitive salaries to American workers. Where is Buick building these days?

OMG Why don't you stop with this Killed in action crap. Why you hate KIA so much? Whats pissing you off is that KIA is selling like hotcakes and its getting better every year. I am right?

It's only natural that they would defend their poor purchase decisions...in most cases these people just want a new car and Hyu/Kia are the only place they can go to get one. Commercials here say if you make $300 a week they will finance you no matter what you credit is. Between that and putting flashy bodies on a 3rd world chassis is how they lure idiots into buying this junk. I kinda feel sorry for them...

Haters will always hate. Truth is KIA has earned my trust and I love my KOUP and my friend loves his Optima. Everywhere we go, people always ask what car we are driving and this is only with 1k in aftermarket upgrade (rims, lowering springs, full exhaust and debadging for the clean look). AND we still have a 100k mile warranty PLUS insurance and parts are CHEAP

I have to agree with Shawn...debadging is kind of a disgrace. Don't be ashamed of what you have -- there's nothing to be ashamed of.

"debadging for the clean look)." Haha...I hear a lot of Hyundai/Kia owners do this! Clean and anonymous...lmao. If I had to drive one of those garbage heaps I would try to trick people too!

Too bad the US is screwed out of the Cee'd. This is the one model that would really sell well in the US vs the VW GTI.
