Yes, it does seem sort of strange to see a prototype Lexus LFA testing on the Nürburgring just as we're hearing reports that the car is nearly sold out. But just because the original supply of 500 cars has been depleted doesn't mean Lexus isn't working on some sort of derivative or last hurrah (our spy shooter friends suggest the car could wear a "Final Edition" designation).

This prototype, painted in a decidedly cool blue, looks a lot like the Nürburgring Edition LFA that we saw last year, albeit with a few tweaks. Most noticeably, the center-mounted tri-exhaust out back has been removed in favor of two dual-exhaust ports below each of the taillamps. A larger rear diffuser has been added, and another inlet has been added to the hood to help with airflow to the engine.

Given all the breathing work done to the 4.8-liter V10, we're guessing that the car seen here offers a fair bit more than the 552 horsepower found in the standard LFA. How much more? Hopefully Lexus will give us a chance to find out.

this is off topic but this is the newest posting, but what do you think GM should drop in the cadillac ATSV ?! i know they are releasing a twin turbo 3.6l V6.....but i think it should receive the small block 4.5l V8 that they are working on the upcoming C7.........yes i know that V6 will over more torque off the line, and better gas mileage, but i wouldnt buy this car if gas was a factor...plus being cadillac all V models should have V8's, just for the prestige of things since mostly all the new offerings (new M3, RS4) will being offering V6's......add a turbo to the V8 or include active valve management to equal things out.....any thought ?

Except you are wrong. The RS4 has the 4.2L V8 and the new M3 is going back to straight sixes, not exactly a V6. Ask for thoughts on an article about the ATS, you'll get better responses.

Haters keep hating, who gives a da*n? This LFA is kicking! Most people on here aren't even car enthusiasts, in other words: don't know anything bout cars. This thing is the answer to the ACR and anything else that gets in its way... Like the LP760-4 Super Veloce, this LFA will not go without being noticed. Thanks for the ride Lexus:) keep making automotive history. What's next?

I'm a car enthusiast and I respect the Lexus LF-A. But nothing changes the fact that to me it's one ugly car. When you put it next to a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin etc. you see design heritage and design emphasis on those cars. The LF-A looks like a mishmash of terrible lines and extreme L-Finesse (dumb name by the way) styling cues that were put together when their design department had a bit to much Sake to drink. Oh, and Lexus and history? Please, get out of here. Lexus has zero motorsport participation except for that laughable Rolex and GT500 series. How about participating in F1 or LeMans?

"keep on making automotive history" apart from the lfa what automotive history has Lexus accomplished? That's what I thought.

Not likely. The LFA Nurburgring edition itself is likely faster than the ACR on Sport Cups. Even on tires designed for the Subaru STI, the LFA did a 7:14. That's a fast chassis.

This is the part where a bunch of you that haven't even so much as laid your eyes on an LFA in the metal (or in this case, mostly carbon) will tell each and every one of us how ugly, unrefined, overpriced and dead slow it is. Let's hear it. :)

Basically the only thing you listed that you would need to be there in person to see would be for the refinement part. As for ugly, you can look at a picture of something and tell if it's ugly or not. Overpriced, yes.......it really is. Dead slow? I wouldn't call it dead slow by any stretch of the imagination but compared to the company it keeps with that price tag then yeah, it is kinda on the slow side.

I'm pretty sure the surface treatment of just about every vehicle from the past DECADE disproves your "it looks just like it does in pictures" theory. Either that, or you're just an unobservant moron with zero attention to detail...

Oh yeah, and allow me to say that I love the fact that the tester is sporting a color matched helmet... and I hope the Takata belts (and those seats) make production!

The only look of the LFA that I would buy, however, that engine has one of the best sounding voices ever.

I hope they paint the next generation Viper that beats the LFA's time the same color as a sort of commemoration.

If you give Toyota/Lexus props in their stories, you will be downgraded. Xenophobia is strong on this blog. According to the readership here, anyone who buys a foreign product is stupid and deserves to be euthanized, yet my fellow Americans keep crowning these "foreign" cars king year after year.
