Chevrolet C7 Corvette renderings by James Robbins – Click above for image gallery

It isn't easy redesigning an icon, especially one as popular and well-known as the Chevrolet Corvette. Nevertheless, a seventh-generation Corvette is coming, and while rumors of an exotic mid-engine layout for America's supercar are unlikely to pan out, it's possible that the Bowtie brand's designers could take the Corvette's look in an entirely new direction.

Student designer James Robbins has his own ideas for what the C7 Corvette will look like. His renderings look like a logical next step in the car's design evolution, though we're not fans of some of the details. We particularly like the rear end's reimagination of the Corvette's signature round taillamps, albeit perhaps without some of the edgy detailing on the car's hood. What say you? Check out the rest of the renderings in the gallery below and let us know what you think of Robbins' C7 Corvette.

the rear 3/4 view is nice. The height of the tail and short rear look good. The door treatment is horrible. The front...um...no

I absolutely LOVE the rear of the car... Too bad I can't say the same about the rest.

Not trying to put you down at all, but I hate the rear lights. The round and the rectangle don't do it for me at all. And don't even start me on the crease that runs down to the lights. Hopefully the production car will not be so "creasey".

Try again . . . looks too derivative, feminine, and cartoonish

Wow, what a tough crowd. Well, this is AutoBlog for ya.

I like the design. Proportions are good. It's sleek. Perhaps too many lines over the hood. But definitely a move in the right direction.

Heck of a lot better than some of the other renderings floating around the internets...

Looks too much like a copy and paste from other cars...
Nice design, too bad it skips the idea of in the end, still being a Corvette.

I like better that modern Stingray concept I've seen before... Do that and you get a winner! Altough from backsides this above doesnt look bad either...

The front is too rounded/loses aggressive lines. Apart from that, good stuff!

Ugly concept! The C6 is a classic design with cues from the previous gens. This one is a hodgepodge of incoherent lines and cues from other marques.

A few nice details on a body that's too much like the C6.

The front, hood, and RX-8 fenders need the most work.

Nice try but I'll have to pass.

The smooth front end is nice but the rest of the car has way too many lines. The top that goes nowhere does just that, it goes nowhere for me.

The corvette needs a dramatic new direction. This is too small of an evolution. It just looks like a continuation of the very gradual changes the car has gotten in the last 30 years. The corvette is one of the few cars that, in 2010, looks pretty damn similar to its 1982 counterpart.

I also want to see a more usable "truck" (hatch) area. I hear some complaints from the crowd who go choose a 911 because the trunk is more useable in it, despite the fact that the vette and 911 are similar in size.
