VIDEO: Unlikely Goodwood - Rod Millen's Toyota Tacoma charges up the hill

Rod Millen's Goodwood run in a Toyota Tacoma -- Click above to watch video
Last year, Rod Millen took his Toyota Tacoma Pike's Peak runner to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Looking, sounding, and handling nothing like a Tacoma, and powered by – according to the caption – a "2-little turbocharged 4-cylinder," Millen flings the thing up the hill, all the while the forced-induction drivetrain is chattering away like a pack of rabid chipmunks. He manages to avoid the hay bales, but then nearly collects what looks like a Bowler Nemesis at the end for his troubles. Follow the jump to watch the video.

Jesus that thing is nuts... No chance in hell I could drive that thing. That took some serious skill.
So much power from a "2-little tuborcharged 4-cylinder"!

Now that I think about it... Wasn't this "truck" in the video game Dirt? As I recall it was a damn handful in that and ungodly fast.

To handle that monster on a damp twisting course commands respect. The way it weaved from side to side slowing down passing the finishing line was incredible.

Cloud of smoke out the exhaust reminds me of a Speed3

And I thought Nascar cars looked nothing like their production counterpart :)
Very cool footage..

The Pikes Peak Tacoma was only about an inch shorter than the production truck but it was 6" wider.

Lucas, what the hell is a "Takoma?"
why not the LS2LS7? 2:29PM (7/14/2009)
The Millen truck is a tube frame underneath. Count on it. It's not a Tacoma at all.

No way! This can't really be a Toyota. They don't have any race vehicles according to the comments you all post every single time a Toyota or Lexus is mentioned on here.

I remember that article, it was quite a while back(well, at least as far back as the Tacoma had that body style). I was pretty impressed with the time considering the dirt tires. But, if I recall, the engine is also rated to make like 800hp at 10k RPM. At sea level, who knows what it makes.
montoym 5:21PM (7/14/2009)
oops, I meant 10k ft of elevation, not 10k RPM.

I remember that artical as well. I'm left wondering what kind of tires he had on it for this run.

It looks like you could run another motor of what is blasting out of the tail pipe of that 4 cylinder. BMW used to make over 1,500 hp from a turbo charged I4. They used production blocks that had to come from a road cars with approx. 20,000 kilometers on it. Something to do with hardening the iron block before subjecting it to the forces of turbo charging.
