Oh no they didn't! LSD announces vertical door kit for the Nissan GT-R
We suppose it was inevitable. At some point just about every kind of car is the unwilling recipient of Lambo doors, and the Nissan GT-R is no exception. German company LSD announced a new vertical door system to transform Nissan's supercar into a winged Godzilla, available for a mere 1,949 euro. The kit includes a guided roller system that connects to the stock mounting point and a buffer system to prevent the doors from being opened too wide or from dropping down. According to LSD, the system also makes the GT-R an "absolute looker" and offers "more safety and more precise opening and closing of the door." More details can be found in the press release after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:
By mounting LSD wing door hinges, the legendary new Nissan GT-R becomes the absolute looker. The wing doors hinges are available with immediate effect for 1949 Euro.
The LSD wing door hinges for the Nissan GT-R feature the new GRS (Guided Roller System). It offers an adjustment possibility with the roller guidance. This results in more safety and more precise opening and closing of the door.
LSD door fittings come with a German TÜV certificate certifying that the LSD wing doors meet all safety standards.
Compared to other retrofit sets for wing doors, the LSD fittings made in Germany are more impressive due to their absolutely sound engineering and the highest-possible standard of quality. In addition, a testing laboratory accredited by the German Kraftfahrtbundesamt (Federal motoring bureau) proved in a side-crash test, that the LSD-solution patented in Germany is as secure as a door assembled in the series production. This means: the occupants safety is guarateed by the LSD door fittings in a side-crash complying with rule 96/27/EG. LSD makes a quick and easy installation possible, without any welding or repainting necessary. Another convincing feature is their perfect fit, thanks to the ability to make three-dimensional adjustments. The LSD door fittings are mounted directly at the points where the original doors were removed. With the added fittings, the otherwise unchanged original doors open first outward and then gently glide upward and stop. Adjustable buffers prevent the doors from being opened too wide or from falling downward or inward when open. A simple grip is all it takes to close the door. On the one hand, the LSD solution allows you to open the door in a outward motion with an aperture angle of approx. 30°; on the other hand, it also allows you to swing the wing door upward, and all that without any great exertion. The LSD wing doors lend any car a sensational look and are the ideal solution for all fans of unusual tuning and show cars. The LSD door fittings are available from LSD or special dealers.

The Beatles said money "Can't buy me Love". Maybe the lyrics should have been "Money can't buy me Taste". Or common sense. There should be a law against this butchery.

I know I'm going to get a wrath of sh*t for this but....
The GTR is pretty plain looking for a stellar performance vehicle. In my opinion, it's somewhat boring / plain appearance, especially when sitting next to traditional super cars which are usually in the "exotic" class!. Exterior-wise I don't even consider it a super car or an exotic. Drive train wise, f yeah!!!! Design-wise I put it on the lines of a Porsche. Which means not a super car but a performance car.
Now in my opinion, scissor doors look stupid on anything other than a Lamborghini or a car that specifically designed from the start to have them (i.e. Ronn Motor Company's Scorpion).
The addition of these doors on this car is just a literal shame on all accounts. The car is A: not designed for them (and) B: Not exotic looking.
To me, adding something like scissor doors to anything says "I can't afford a Lamborghini" and at best they become a gas-station conversation piece. Mostly of which would be after the fact conversations where you say to friends "I saw a regular looking car with Lamborghini doors on it" and they respond "that's gay" and you say "no kidding". So at best, people get their 15 minutes of fame but unfortunately it's more like infamy.
It's kind of funny though. I used to hang out and competed on 25 cent street races (quarter mile) in Lynn, MA / Revere, MA (Marsh Road). We had a term for the drivers of cars that were customized to look like something else... "Posers".. Anyway, the city is famous for 2 thousand dollar cars with 5 thousand dollar sound systems and 5 thousand dollar paint jobs. The scissor doors are like the pinnacle of this type of customizing to me...
Just like polishing a turd! And no, the GTR is not a turd, but the application of these doors qualifies the person that adds them to their car as a "Poser" which automatically gives the car a stigma. I say keep it real!
Did I get the award for the longest insight ever on such a simple topic? lol

I KNEW it was coming. What an atrocity to destroy what is otherwise a great sports car. For some reason I doubt this is the end. Just you wait for the ugly body kits.

A German company was the first to produce riced doors for the GT-R?
I smell conspiracy. I bet it was funded by Audi or Porsche. ;)

I wish they'd do something unique instead. Like doors that install on rails so they slide up and over the car. At least it'd be less played out.

Or private jet style, folding out into a little ramp/staircase. It's the only edge left to hinge really.
B 1:15AM (4/22/2009)
at imsteevin, they have even done that. Im too lazy to link, but there is a car where the doors fold under the car.
